Thinking is the Essence of Wisdom

Thinking Thoughts

April 18, 2014 by Tony Degagne

I do this real moron thing, it's called thinking, and some folks think I'm not a very good American because I like to form my own opinions. Thinking is the most unhealthy thing in the world, and people die of it just as they die of any other disease. All though it is not catchy, it seems to be spreading at an incredible rate. Our splendid physique as a people is entirely due to our national stupidity. When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say.

People mistakenly assume that their thinking is done by their head; it is actually done by the heart which first dictates the conclusion, then commands the head to provide the reasoning that will defend it. Thinking is the greatest torture in the world for most people.

Thinking is one thing no one has ever been able to tax.

I must write it all out, at any cost. Writing is thinking. It is more than living, for it is being conscious of living. Writing and learning and thinking are the same process.

The best thinking has been done in solitude. The worst has been done in turmoil.  Many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.

Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.

At the age of 20, we don't care what the world thinks of us; at 30, we worry about what it is thinking of us; at 40, we discover that it wasn't thinking of us at all.

All the problems of the world could be settled if people were only willing to think. The trouble is that people very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work. There is an art of reading, as well as an art of thinking, and an art of writing in which mine needs some work, lol.

Our thinking and our behaviour are always in anticipation of a response, therefore making it fear-based. True humility is intelligent self respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves. It makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be. Thought means life, since those who do not think so do not live in any high or real sense. Thinking begins only when we have come to know that reason, glorified for centuries, is the stiff-necked adversary of thought.

Democracy is the art of thinking independently together.

The end comes when we no longer talk with ourselves. It is the end of genuine thinking and the beginning of the final loneliness. When you think about it, that is all you are doing is just simply talking to yourself in hope that you can come up with an answer. Sometimes It works. What this country needs is less public speaking and more private thinking.  We all have problems or things that will get us down from time to time. No matter who we are. A good sense of humour can get us through most things. Laugh it off. it'll be alright.  Do everything with your whole heart, or not at all. Don't put up with lies or with people who lie to you. Don't risk hurting people just for the fun of it.  And lastly, Your best foot forward should not be in your mouth.
